This year saw a staggering number of launches in the multibillion dollar beauty space, between the palettes, peels, and primers; the lip liners, plumpers, and kits—not to mention the celebrity lines: Victoria! Tracee! Gaga! Of course, such a wealth of options means there’s something special for everyone (seriously, everyone: thanks to the rise of customizable beauty brands likes of Prose and Atolla, customers can actually create their own tailor-made formulas), but it also means that separating the good from the great, the better from the best, is harder than ever.
With this in mind, Vogue turned to fashion’s top coiffeurs, makeup whizzes, and facialists—those who lend their deft hands to the making of runway and red carpet moments. We asked them to sound off on the year’s most game-changing masks, mascaras, and more. From a natural face balm found in Thailand to a next-gen hair styling tool, a look at the best beauty products of 2019 below.

RMS Beauty “Un” Cover-Up Cream Foundation is creamy and deliciously blendable. Rich in jojoba, castor and meadowfoam seed oils, it’s a clean beauty product that photographs so well!
Glossier Milky Oil is hands down my go-to on set for gently exfoliating the lips with a cotton round, or taking off waterproof eye makeup. I like that it is quick and effective, but doesn’t leave the skin with an oily finish.
If you like a Brigitte Bardot, full velvet lash like I do, Le Volume Révolution de Chanel mascara in Noir 10 is the one! I get asked if I’m wearing falsies every single time I use it.
James Pecis, The Hairstylist
This year we have seen luxury brands launch products embracing texture, securing a more diverse line to both aid the stylist and consumer. My top 2 products of 2019 would be first, the Priming Lotion Leave in Conditioner by Oribe, a super product that not only moisturizes, conditions and thermal protects but also has a high level of slip aids to prevent breakage from combing while being silicone-free. This can be used on all hair types, but I use it the most particularly on the tightest and coiliest of textured hair. Team this up with the new wide-tooth comb attachment from Dyson that secures itself super well to their Supersonic hairdryer. They really achieved a great design as it is able to withstand tension flowing through the hair without breaking or compromising the streamlined airflow from the supersonic. It’s the first time women with type 4 hair are able to stretch and lengthen without causing extreme heat damage.
Danuta Mieloch, The Facialist
The Best Night Mask from MBR is an extraordinarily powerful targeted cream mask that can reach the deepest layers of the skin. It regenerates the skin overnight so that you wake up with an even skin tone and fresh face. It's instant beauty overnight!
Biologique Recherche’s Masque PIGM 400 is brightening with exceptional antioxidants that boost skin’s radiance—a true complexion perfecter. It’s formulated with Vitamin C and red algae extract, which are known to dramatically brighten the skin.
Lena Ott, The Colorist
